It could have been worse for Dems

It is remarkable how much a country’s political attitudes can shift in such a short period of time. Merely two years ago, Democrats experienced copious Congressional victories throughout the country that appeared to be a mandate for “change”. In 2010, however, Republicans had them on their heels as Democrats scrambled to reallocate election resources to minimize damage. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee claimed that they managed to save 15-20 seats in doing so. Although the reallocation of campaign funding was disparaging for the affected candidates, it ultimately helped the Democratic Party remain within striking distance of the Republicans. As a result, it will be easier for Democrats to regain a majority in the next midterm election if they are able to successfully mobilize for 2012.
