The author of this article raises an interesting point that Obama may have been overly ambitious during his first two years in office. Instead on focusing on the economy, Obama chose to also make healthcare a primary area of interest. The president might be experiencing higher approval ratings if he had chose to focus on solving the problems of the economy. Instead, he proceeded to take advantage of Democratic majorities in Congress, and pushed through a healthcare bill that might not have been as polished as he would have liked. This shift to greater governmental power left many Americans concerned, and Obama’s approval ratings have significantly declined. In 2008, it seemed that Obama and the Democrats would have a stranglehold on federal government for an extended period; however, Republicans now appear posed to win a substantial number of Congressional seats in 2010. It is remarkable how the energy of a political party can be depleted over such a short period of time.
